                        Windows 98 and 98 SE, ME or

                        Windows 2000 Setup


Use this information if your computer came with Windows 98 or if you use Windows 98SE (Second Edition), Windows Millennium (ME) or Windows 2000.


If you purchased a computer or a copy of Windows 98 after 8/1/1999, you probably have Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). Use these instructions to install Windows 98 Second Edition only. If you have the first edition of Windows 98 click here

Windows 98 SE, ME or 2000 

Click on the Start button at the lower left corner of the task bar, then choose Programs, then select Internet Tools, and finally Internet Connection Wizard.

    1.  You will see a “Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard” screen.

    2.  Choose the third option: “I want to set up my internet connection manually...” Then click Next.

    3.  You will see a “Setting up Your Internet Connection” screen. Choose the top option: I connect through a phone line and a modem. Then click Next

    4.  You will see a “Internet Account Connection Information” screen. Enter your area code in the “Area Code” box. Enter the phone number you use to dial us in the “Telephone Number” box.

    5.  Uncheck the “Dial using area code and country code” box.

    6.  Click the Advanced button..

    7.  Leave the “Connection Type” at “PPP” and the “Logon Procedure at” “None”. Click the Addresses tab.

    8.  Leave  the “IP Address” at “Internet service provider automatically provides one”

    9.  Set “DNS Server” to “Always use the Following”. The two boxes will turn white.

   10.  Set the “Primary DNS Server” to 206.10.30.100

   11.  Set the “Alternate DNS Server to 206.10.30.101

   12.  Click OK to return to the “Internet Account Connection Information” screen, then click Next.

   13.  Change the “Connection Name” label to “Red River Telephone” or “Barnesville Telephone” Then click Next.

   14.  You will see the “Set Up Your Internet Mail Account” screen. Choose Yes and click Next.

   15.  You will see a “Internet Mail Account” screen. Select “Create a new internet mail account” then click Next.

   16.  Fill in your real name (e.g. John Doe) for your “Display Name”, then click Next.

   17.  You will see a “Internet E-Mail Address” screen. Enter username@ in the “E-Mail Address” box. (Username = your chosen Internet name. For example jsmith.)

   18.  You will see a “E-Mail Server Names” screen. Do not change “My incoming mail server is a POP3 server.”

   19.  Set the “Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server” to rrt.net

   20.  Set the “Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server” to rrt.net, then click Next.

   21.  You will see a “Internet Mail Logon” screen.

   22.  Set the “Account Name” to your username (lower case). For example, jsmith

   23.  Set the “Password” to your password (lower case). For example: password.

   24.  Do NOT check “Logon using secure password authentication.” Click Next.

25. You will see a “Completing Internet Connection Wizard” screen. Click Finish.

 This should complete the wizard and set up Windows 98 Second Edition.


Windows 98 Setup

If your PC came with Windows 98, it will have a "Connect to Internet" icon on the desktop. When you click on this icon Windows 98 will start the Internet connection wizard. 

An alternate way to start the wizard is to click on the Start button, then choose Program, then select Internet Explorer, and finally Connection Wizard.

Once you start the Internet connection wizard, use the following procedure to set up for our service.
